Half Board basis

Arrival to Bari, chief town of Region put in the middle of the Adriatic coast. Meeting with our assistant and transfer to Polignano a Mare. Polignano is characterized by over 12 Km of coasts of a crystalline sea and a series of natural caves dug by the action of the sea. Native city of the singer Domenico Modugno, Polignano is only 30 Km far from the chief town of Region, Bari. Accommodation in typical abode in the ancient suburb. Dinner and overnight.

Breakfast. Departure for the visit of the Itria Valley: first stage is Alberobello, little village rising in the heart of the Murgia of the Trullis with its characteristic old town which is World Heritage Site protected by UNESCO. Alberobello preserves a historical nucleus entirely composed by trulli, residences built with dry calcareous stone, base bleached with alive mortar and roof in shape of cone built with grey stones. The summit of these particular constructions is often embellished with decorative symbols of various form traced with milk of mortar representing zodiac or religious signs. In this particular enchanting scenery, you will take a walk in the old town, in particular the Rione Monti and along the run you can stop and taste the famous Rosoli (home made liqueurs) and sweets made with almonds. You will continue towards Martina Franca, set at equal distance from the Jonio and from the Adriatic Sea. The trullis that serve as frame of this town were built in the phases of country expansion out of the centerof the town; they are examples of the constructive technique of dry stone, today perfectly preserved. All around a fertile country with its bright colors framed with splendid “muretti a secco” dry-stone walls which are still today used by the farmers to delimit their cultivations. Your visit includes: the University Palace, the Palazzo Ducale and the Basilic of San Martino. Return to Polignano in the evening. Dinner and overnight.

Breakfast. Departure for the visit of the Caves of Castellana, in the hinterland of the province of Bari, 290 meters on the sea level, on the border of a Karst closed basin. This speleological complex was open and explored for the first time in 1938 from Franco Anelli. The caves are a labyrinth of hollows and burrows developing in a depth of 2 Km in the subsoil, offering unique sceneries to the visitors. Free afternoon. Dinner and overnight in Polignano.

Day 4 –  SUNDAY -BARI VECCHIA” and departure
Breakfast. Last day at your disposal for the visit of “Bari Vecchia” beginning from the Basilica of St. Nicolas, one of the principal places of Christianity of the city, two hundred meters away from the other important city religious pole, the cathedral. Built in the heart of town as a great shrine, the church holds the bones of the Saint coming from Myra. It has been for centuries the bridge between the Christian west and the oriental spirituality. We suggest to visit the crypt, guarding the grave of Saint Nicolas and the oriental chapel, where still today are celebrated the orthodox rites. At last panoramic walk to visit Piazza del Ferrarese, Palazzo dell’Acquedotto Pugliese, the Norman-Swabian castle, the Petruzzelli Theatre.
