DEPARTURE EVERY SUNDAY

Guide in English S.I.C.

Half Board basis

Day 1SUNDAY -BARI VECCHIA” / MATERA
Arrival to Bari, meeting with our assistant and transfer in the city centre and visit of “Bari Vecchia” beginning from the Basilica of St. Nicolas, one of the principal places of Christianity of the city, two hundred meters away from the other important city religious pole, the cathedral. Built in the heart of town as a great shrine, the church holds the bones of the Saint coming from Myra. It has been for centuries the bridge between the Christian west and the oriental spirituality. We suggest to visit the crypt, guarding the grave of Saint Nicolas and the oriental chapel, where still today are celebrated the orthodox rites. At last panoramic walk to visit Piazza del Ferrarese, Palazzo dell’Acquedotto Pugliese, the Norman-Swabian castle, the Petruzzelli Theatre.
Transfer to Matera, in Basilicata region. Accommodation in typical abode in the ancient suburb. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2 –  MONDAY - MATERA
Breakfast. A hypothetical walk can be started from the old town with a magnificent view of the Sasso Barisano and proceed towards P.zza Pastures to visit the Sasso Caveoso, where there are the narrow streets and ancient neighborhoods. Don't miss a visit to the House cave, peasant typically decorated, and then climb on Mount Errone, where there are the Churches of San Giovanni in Monterrone (11th century) and Madonna De Idris (13th century). Visit to the Church of San Pietro Caveoso, with the sober façade of the 17th century.
To finish your walk you can visit one of the many craft workshops to learn about products of ceramic production of Matera. Free afternoon. Dinner and overnight.

Day 3 –  TUESDAY - CASTEL DEL MONTE / TRANI
Breakfast. Departure towards Castel del Monte, a residence for the hunting season commissioned by the Emperor Frederick II situated on a sweet hill entirely immersed in the green vegetation, inside the territory of the Parco dell’Alta Murgia. Very impressive is the octagonal planning of the castle which is a real stately fortitude, completed in 1240. For is greatness and magnificent aspect it is very different from the other castles you can visit in this region. It was introduced in the list of the World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1996.
We conclude the path with Trani and its impressive cathedral, built at the end of 1000 ad to house the bones of St. Nicholas the Pilgrim, which includes two crypts and an underground built in the 7th century. Is one of the most fascinating churches, thanks to its attractive location near the sea.
Dinner and overnight.
